Softening lines and restoring natural expression — administered by a qualified nurse prescriber with a medical-first approach.

Nurse Prescriber Botulinum Toxin Natural Results Minimal Downtime

What are anti-wrinkle treatments?

Anti-wrinkle treatments are among the most popular and well-established aesthetic treatments in the world, and for good reason — when carried out correctly by a skilled practitioner, they deliver natural-looking results with minimal fuss and virtually no downtime. At Amber Grove, the emphasis is always on softening, not erasing: the goal is to look refreshed and like yourself, not frozen or overdone.

The treatment uses a highly purified, prescription-only product that is administered in tiny, precise amounts into specific facial muscles. By temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles, lines and wrinkles are allowed to soften and relax.

⚕️ Prescription-only medicine: Botulinum toxin is a Prescription Only Medicine (POM) in the UK, meaning it must be prescribed and administered by a qualified medical professional. At Amber Grove, all treatments are carried out by a registered nurse prescriber — giving you the clinical safety standards your face deserves.

“My approach to anti-wrinkle treatments is always conservative and natural. I’d rather you come back to add a little more than leave looking over-treated. The best results are the ones nobody can quite put their finger on.”

How does it work?

Many facial wrinkles — particularly those on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes — are caused by repeated muscle contractions over years of expression. Every time you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows, those muscles contract, gradually creasing the skin above them.

Botulinum toxin works by temporarily blocking the nerve signal that tells the muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes, and with it, the overlying skin smooths out. The effect is temporary — the nerve signal gradually returns over 3–4 months, at which point the muscle function fully recovers. Nothing is permanent.

The treatment does not affect sensation in your skin — you’ll still feel everything normally. It only reduces the specific movements in the targeted muscle.

Common treatment areas

Anti-wrinkle treatments are most commonly used on the upper face, where expression lines are most prominent. At Amber Grove, treatment is always tailored to your individual facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.

Forehead lines
Frown lines (between brows)
Crow’s feet (eye corners)
Brow lift
Bunny lines (nose)
Lip lines & lip flip
Chin dimpling
Neck bands (Nefertiti lift)
Jawline slimming (masseter)
Hyperhidrosis (excess sweating)

If you’re unsure whether your concern can be addressed with an anti-wrinkle treatment, a consultation will give you a clear picture of what’s possible.

What to expect on the day

Before you arrive
Preparation

Come with a clean face where possible. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand and aspirin or ibuprofen for 48 hours if you’re able to, as these increase the risk of bruising. Eat beforehand — low blood sugar can make you feel lightheaded.

First 10–15 minutes
Consultation & Facial Assessment

We’ll discuss your concerns, review your medical history, and I’ll assess your facial anatomy — muscle strength, symmetry, and movement. I’ll show you on a mirror which areas I recommend treating and explain the dose and technique. You are under no obligation to proceed.

10–15 minutes
The Treatment

Using a very fine needle, small, precise amounts of the product are administered into the targeted muscles. Most clients describe the sensation as a brief, mild sting — very quick and well tolerated. A standard three-area treatment typically takes around 10 minutes once we begin.

After treatment
Immediate Aftercare

You can leave straight away and return to most normal activities. There may be small red dots or minor swelling at the treated areas, which settles within an hour or two. I’ll go through your aftercare instructions and book a complimentary two-week review appointment.

🩺

The Two-Week Review

I include a complimentary two-week follow-up with every anti-wrinkle treatment. This gives us a chance to assess your results together, make any small adjustments if needed, and ensure you’re completely happy. It’s part of what makes nurse-led care different.

When will I see results?

Anti-wrinkle treatments don’t work instantly — the product takes a few days to fully take effect as the nerve signal is gradually relaxed.

Days 1–3
No visible change yet. Possible minor redness or tiny bumps at the treated areas, settling within hours.
Days 4–7
Muscle movement begins to reduce. You may notice it’s harder to make certain expressions — this is the treatment working.
Week 2
Full effect visible. Lines significantly softened. Two-week review appointment to assess results and make any adjustments.
Month 3–4
Effect gradually wears off as nerve signals return. Most clients rebook at around 3–4 months to maintain their results.

Results typically last 3–4 months for most clients. With regular treatment over time, some clients find they need slightly less product or less frequent appointments as the targeted muscles gradually reduce in strength.

Aftercare instructions

⬆️
Stay upright for 4 hoursDon’t lie down or lean forward for at least 4 hours after treatment to prevent the product migrating.

Move your face normallyGentle facial expressions in the hours after treatment are fine — you don’t need to avoid moving your face.

Safety & side effects

This treatment has one of the strongest safety profiles in aesthetic medicine, with decades of clinical use and extensive research behind it. When administered by a qualified medical professional using correct technique and appropriate dosing, serious complications are rare.

As a registered nurse prescriber, I prescribe and administer all botulinum toxin treatments myself — there is no doctor sign-off from a distance. I carry emergency medication to every appointment and am trained in the management of all possible complications.

Common side effects are mild and temporary:

Mild redness at the treated areas (resolves within hours)
Small bumps or raised areas (1–2 hours)
Bruising — possible but uncommon
Temporary mild headache on day of treatment
Slight asymmetry — correctable at two-week review
Heavy brow feeling — usually resolves within 1–2 weeks

Serious adverse reactions (such as lid ptosis — drooping of the eyelid) are very rare and temporary, resolving as the product wears off. If you have any concerns following treatment, contact me directly — I’m always available to provide support and advice.

Frequently asked questions

Will I look frozen or unnatural?
+
The “frozen” look is the result of too much product — not an inevitable outcome of anti-wrinkle treatment. My approach is always conservative and tailored. I use smaller doses than many practitioners, which means results are more natural-looking and expression is preserved. At your two-week review, we can always add a little more if you’d like; it’s much harder to undo over-treatment than it is to build results gradually.
Does it hurt?
+
Anti-wrinkle treatments are generally well tolerated with minimal discomfort. A very fine needle is used and the treatment is quick — most clients describe only a brief sting. The forehead and crow’s feet areas are usually the most comfortable; the frown area between the brows can be slightly more sensitive. Some clients choose to have a numbing cream applied beforehand if they are particularly sensitive — just let me know when you book.
How often will I need to come back?
+
Most clients rebook every 3–4 months to maintain their results. Over time, with regular treatment, some clients find that the treated muscles weaken slightly, meaning results last a little longer and slightly less product may be needed. I’ll never encourage you to book more frequently than necessary — we’ll find the rhythm that works for your face and your lifestyle.
What happens if I stop having treatments?
+
If you decide to stop, your face will simply return to how it was before treatment as the product fully wears off over a few months. Your muscles regain their full function and any lines that were there before will return. Nothing is made worse by stopping — anti-wrinkle treatments are entirely reversible in this sense. Some clients find that years of regular treatment mean their lines are less deep than they would otherwise have been, which is an added bonus.
Why should I choose a nurse prescriber over other providers?
+
In the UK, botulinum toxin is a prescription-only medicine, which means it legally must be prescribed by a prescriber — a doctor, dentist, or nurse prescriber. As a registered nurse prescriber, I assess, prescribe, and administer your treatment myself — meaning there is no split responsibility. I carry emergency medication, have a thorough understanding of facial anatomy, and am bound by the NMC Code of Conduct. The aesthetic industry in the UK is underregulated, so choosing a genuine medical professional is the most important safety decision you can make.
